Welcome to the MakerSpace Initiation workshop!
This workshop introduces you to two rapid prototyping techniques: 3D printing and laser cutting. You will first follow short tutorials to learn how to design parts for these two machines, then imagine and build a small personal or group project.
What you will learn
- Find your way around the MakerSpace: its spaces, its machines and how to use them safely.
- Draw in 2D with Inkscape: create clean vector paths ready for laser cutting (keychain, bookmark).
- Model in 3D with OnShape: from your first part to a functional phone holder.
- Go from model to material: slice a part with Orca and launch a print on the MakerSpace printers.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is an introduction: no prior knowledge of design or digital fabrication is required. Start with Getting Started, then follow the tutorials in order. Take the time to experiment, fail and try again: designing is how you learn to design.
